BAE Systems is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer. Our ideal candidate is a college graduate in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy with a few years of experience, but we would consider a recent graduate or someone without a degree but with additional years of experience. This is an on-site position working a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. You will work closely with production, use microscopes to inspect parts, and prepare reports for the customer.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with a team of technical disciplines to identify and specify materials, processes, and coatings for metallic materials used in Weapon Systems and Combat Vehicles.
  2. Develop new systems and support legacy systems within the production facility.
  3. Review design drawings with other engineering disciplines to ensure proper material and process specifications.
  4. Select appropriate materials considering cost, availability, and manufacturability.
  5. Develop specifications for metallic materials and coatings, applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior.
  6. Perform failure analyses using metallurgical techniques to determine root causes of failures.
  7. Support production with root cause investigations, vendor support, and inspections.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of metallurgical/materials testing experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (e.g., Creo) and use CAD software.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills for report writing and presentations.
  • Ability to develop effective customer relationships to solve technical problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in heavy industry or military hardware, including forgings, weldments, heat treatments, and fatigue testing.
  • Experience in metallographic analysis, failure analysis, hardness testing, SEM, optical microscopy, and mechanical testing.
  • Experience in developing material and process specifications and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and corrosion mechanisms.

Pay Range: $77,809 - $132,275 annually, based on market data and individual qualifications.
