Job summary

Momentive Technologies is seeking a Material Scientist to develop new quartz products and processes, leading cross-functional projects and validating new applications. You will drive IP generation and coordinate transfer from bench to production with Manufacturing, Quality, and EHS teams.

You will apply Six Sigma and advanced materials characterization to improve processes, collaborating across suppliers and customers to meet market demands.

Qualifications

• PhD in Material Science & Engineering or Glass Science; 0–2 years industry experience.
• Expertise in high-temperature processing equipment for quartz, glass or ceramics.
• Proficient in statistical design and analysis including DOE, hypothesis testing and Gage R&R.
• Strong project management for delivering new product/process tech on time and budget.
• Ability to collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers and customers.
• Hands-on work in an industrial environment with PPE.

Material Scientist As a Material Scientist, you'll spearhead the creation of innovative materials, drive new product launches, and provide invaluable technical support to our esteemed clientele. Your role involves the thrilling challenge of developing groundbreaking high-temperature fusion processes and offering crucial manufacturing technical support. Collaborating closely with our team, you'll be instrumental in scaling up products and processes from the initial bench phase to high-volume production. Moreover, you'll not only contribute to managing our team of Technology Technicians but also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of materials technology within our organization.

Job Description

Develop new quartz products and processes utilizing technical expertise to meet new market/application demands. Lead new product introduction projects with cross-functional teams and external validation partners.

• Responsibilities include IP research, feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, cost model construction and analysis. Will work with Manufacturing, Quality, and EHS to support scaleup and transfer of technology. Apply project management skills in planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management. Generate intellectual properties such as patents, publications, and internal reports. Also, support generation of product brochure, marketing communications including white papers, technical training presentations and procedures for commercial and manufacturing team respectively. Responsible for manufacturing technical support regarding high temperature processing of quartz and quartz containing materials. Apply Six Sigma methodology, statistical, surface and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis and troubleshooting.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD degree Material Science & Engineering or Glass Science 0 - 2 years industry experience
• Expertise in working with and the design of high temperature processing equipment of quartz, glass, or ceramics.
• Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiment, hypothesis testing and Gage R&R.
• Project management experience - effective planning and prioritization of projects of significant business impact to deliver new product/process technologies.
• Proven ability to collaborate with manufacturing, supplier, and customer to accomplish project objectives on time and within budget.
• Ability to do hands‑on work in an industrial environment with necessary PPE and interact and influence in a matrixed environment.
• A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self‑direction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with, or design of, quartz fusion processes including electric fusion, arc fusion and flame fusion.
• Understanding and experience with a variety of analytical tools utilized to measure ambient and high temperature properties of fused silica and ceramics.
• Proficiency in materials characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, TGA, etc.)
• Working knowledge of New Product Introduction (NPI) Stage‑Gate processes, including product concept development, feasibility assessment, design and prototype development, verification and validation, commercialization, and manufacturing transfer.
• Experience designing products for semiconductor processing equipment and familiarity with the semiconductor tool market.
• Six Sigma training and/or certifications.

Compensation

Our Material Scientist will earn a variable compensation including base salary and bonus. Base salary range takes into consideration experience, education, and training. Not to mention all the amazing benefits available for employee selection as well.
