Job summary

Clayton Supply is seeking a Material Planner to ensure steady material flow from vendors to the Supply Facility and to release purchase orders and work orders. The role reports to the Warehouse Manager with a dotted line to the Home Office Materials Department.

You’ll support and optimize operations through integrity, professionalism, and continuous improvement, aligning with Clayton’s values and Lean principles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply-Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in material planning or supply-chain planning.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Oracle preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Lean principles experience preferred.
  • APICS membership/courses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a world-class material planning discipline to support ERP initiatives.
  • Work and communicate collaboratively with the other disciplines within the facility.
  • Determine required materials and issue purchase orders.
  • Resolve material shortages, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and identify root-causes for inventory variance.
  • Operate and order within the supply contractual terms.
  • Review vendor created backorders and develop corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Monitor terms and performance standards on all vendor and supplier contracts.
  • Implement and abide by corporate policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and monitor inventory, material usage and efficiency.
  • Create strategic solutions to improve material flow.
  • Recommend product substitutions based on material shortages.

The Material Planner is responsible for maintaining consistent, uninterrupted material flow from the vendor to the Supply Facility. The Material Planner is also responsible for releasing purchase orders and work orders, internal/external communication of inventory needs, communication with customers of material shortages, communication with vendor on quality concerns, and evaluating customer purchasing trends. The material planner reports directly to the Warehouse Manager of the Supply facility with a dotted line report to the Home Office Materials Department. A successful material planner should be able to support and optimize operations via integrity, professionalism, production capability, operational support, contract and process excellence, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply-Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or 7-10 years’ of equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in material planning, supply-chain planning or building materials management
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Systems. Oracle experience preferred
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Self-Starter
  • Experience and Commitment to Lean principles desired
  • APICS Membership/Courses preferred
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, in person.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
  • Work primarily involves sitting/standing, up to 4-hours at a time.
