Job summary

nVent is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to ensure uninterrupted production flow in the assigned area. You will coach employees, train on-the-job, and coordinate material and information movement across shifts to meet daily goals.

In this role, you will apply Lean principles (MDI, 5S) to eliminate waste, improve workflow, and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the shipping department.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience aligned with shipping operations in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience using standard office software and shipping documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide backup to the Shipping Supervisor for all assigned areas.
  • Lead Lean activities (MDI, 5S, Kaizen) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive waste reduction through Lean deployment and process improvements.
  • Operate equipment such as CRTs and forklifts as required.
  • Coordinate training and ensure timely material movement across shifts.
  • Communicate issues to shifts and support teams via email and in person.
  • Ensure safe work practices and proper incident reporting.

POsition SUmmary

Ensure uninterrupted production flow in assigned process. Provide problem support and coaching / on-the-job training to employees to ensure the day-to-day business unit department goals are being met. Communicate with a variety of support resources to resolve problems.

Key role responsibilities
  • Provide backup to the Shipping Supervisor for all assigned areas.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles in order to lead and participate in MDI, 5S, and Kaizen activities
  • Drive out waste throughout department through the deployment of the Lean methodology
  • Operate a variety of equipment applicable within assigned area (i.e., CRTs, forklifts, etc.).
  • Execute and coordinate employee training
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate movement of material and information into, within and out of assigned work area as needed.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture by involving employees in problem solving, decision making, as well as recognizing them for exceptional work.
  • Ensure all employees are properly following startup, shutdown, and break times
  • Ensure all employees are properly filling out required paperwork
  • Communicate issues to other shifts and support functions via email and in person
  • Responsible for ensuring that all employees are performing their duties in a safe manner, and ensuring that appropriate medical attention is provided in the event of an injury
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents in a timely manner. Provide detailed report for incidents.
  • Participate in safety inspections.
  • Adjust staffing as necessary in response to material, machine, or labor changes throughout the shift
  • Other duties as assigned.
qualifications and experience
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • 3-5 years shipping work experience preferred.
  • Computer experience with Windows Word, Excel, Outlook, MACPAC and the Internet.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of all operations of the assigned shipping process required
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, and ability to promote compliance with them.
  • Skill in analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Skill in communicating effectively through oral and written communications
  • Skill in following detailed assembly instructions, processes and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate job expectations to staff and achieving desired results by monitoring, coaching, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to achieve high productivity by reliable and punctual attendance and reporting any tardiness, attendance issues and disciplinary issues to the Shipping Supervisor.
  • Ability to conduct operator training on standard work to include: work instructions, machine adjustments, product quality, company and value stream policies and procedures as required.
  • Ability to identify and support continuous improvement efforts with the Shipping Supervisor.
  • Ability to sustain and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstance and have the ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.
