A leading company in the industrial sector is seeking a Material Handler to join their distribution center in Houston. The role involves receiving, stocking, and distributing materials while operating heavy-duty equipment. Candidates should have a High School diploma and at least one year of experience. Responsible for a variety of functions within the distribution center, such as receiving, stocking, loading and unloading merchandise, picking and operating heavy-duty equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts. Do not report employees who perform one of these duties as their primary function. Typical titles include: Materials Handler, Distribution Center Generalist.The MaterialHandleris responsible for receiving, storingand distribution of a wide variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities using mechanized and manual material moving equipment, devices, and systems. They will prepare items for shipment as required.
The work requires general knowledge of the methods used in processing, handling, and storing of materials and equipment throughout the plant.They must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing duties.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS
Operates pallet jacks, forklifts and cranes to deliver inbound materials efficiently, effectively and safely to the proper work center or storage location.
Monitor inventory to support the stock replenishment program.
Track material movement through TREX via the digital picklist.
Organize storage locations to maximize kitting efficiency.
Reviews inbound and outbound shipments to ensure the materials match between the purchase order and the packing slip and to verify purchase order requirements have been met.
Delivers goods and materials to the appropriate department and designated inventory area.May need to assemble items prior to staging.
Timely planning and scheduling of kitting.
Delivering supplementals to various work centers.
Documents and communicates any inventor, shipment problems and provides plant leadership with the key information to resolve any issues with vendors.
Establishes clear communication within and between work centers to manage inventory and fulfill customer needs.
Organizes and maintains a clean work area, free from any hazards.
Maintains accurate records of inbound material and inventory systems.
Assists with trash disposal and fills in for Maintenance Technicians as needed.
Other duties and projects as assigned by the Materials Manager or Team Leader.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or GED.
Ability to read and comprehend basic drawingsand perform basic math skills (adding/subtraction).
Clean driving record/motor vehicle report.
Minimum of1yearof work experience.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

Complies with all safety rules and procedures.
HABITS OF A SUCCESSFUL MATERIAL HANDLER
Conduct a complete walkthrough of the assigned material area without exception.
Check lifts, equipment, and other tools to minimize downtime.
Check for reorder tags that need to be handed to the Site Buyer.
Check the stock levels on parts that are being supplemented.
Identify areas for improvement involved with the kitting process. Let’s make this an efficient process.
Remove loose packing material throughout the department and throughout the shop.
Communicate with the department supervisor that corresponds with the material area you are assigned to.
Notify the Material Manager on issues with picking or the kitting schedule as they arise.
Notify the Material Manager when inventory variances are found and possible root causes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots and the ability to wear a respirator.
The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.
Ability to lift 50 pounds safely and able to drag blast hose over full length of the railcar.
Working around heavy moving equipment with intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools.
Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.
WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT
Must comply with all safety requirements at all times and lead by example regarding safety.
Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time.Must dress accordingly.
Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas to noise levels greater than 80 decibels.
Scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven.
