Job summary

International Paper is seeking a Material Handler 2 in Des Moines, IA to manage material flow and operate forklifts in a fast-paced plant. The role requires attention to detail, safety compliance, and teamwork on a Monday–Friday schedule.

You will perform inspections, document bale counts, assist with loading, and support continuous improvement in material handling processes while upholding company safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to work overtime and varying shifts.
  • Able to meet physical demands of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and maintain the flow of materials throughout the plant.
  • Complete daily forklift inspection reports.
  • Record bale counts and loading times for shipments.
  • Load and unload trailers and manage pallet flow.
  • Attend plant safety meetings and report concerns.

Job Description

Position Title: Material Handler 2

Pay Rate: $25.20/hr.

Category/Shift: Hourly, Full-Time Monday - Friday 5am to 1:30pm

Physical Location: 2800 Dixon Street, Des Moines, IA 50316

The Job You Will Perform
  • Handle and maintain the flow of materials throughout the plant
  • Complete daily pre-start forklift maintenance inspection report (or VCR)
  • Complete and submit load sheet to accurately record bale count, loading start/stop times for finished goods on outbound shipments
  • Follow proper trailer loading and unloading lock-out/tag out procedure
  • Assist with sorting, deboxing and moving pallets/materials on the plant floor
  • Assist with removing finished bales and storing them in the proper location
  • Load and unload trailers
  • Complete PMs for all certified mobile equipment regularly
  • Attend and participate in plant safety meetings
  • Manage controllable costs through proper equipment, tool and consumable usage
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns
  • Adhere to plant policies and guidelines
  • Other duties may be assigned

  • Ability to communicate with floor lead – maintenance issues, downtime, production issues, unacceptable or non‑conforming loads, poor bale quality, errors on supplier tickets versus actual receipts any other issues with material being handled

Ability to operate/monitor the following equipment: Forklift, Skid Steer, Electronic Pallet Jack, Hand Truck
