Job summary

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler on the 1st shift in the Mobile, AL facility. You will manage inventory movement, tag materials, and assemble orders for delivery in a busy warehouse environment.

The role requires reading mechanical drawings, precise measuring, and operating cranes/forklifts. A valid overhead crane certification and ability to lift 51–100 lbs with assistance are expected. Safety PPE is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Basic arithmetic and measurement skills required.
• Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
• Experience in industrial warehouse settings preferred.
• Crane certification required.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Receive and store items in inventory locations.
• Tag materials for identification.
• Pull and assemble customer orders for delivery.
• Operate yard truck to load/unload trailers.
• Operate cranes to load/unload trailers and forklifts as needed.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and document production data.
• Restock materials and report discrepancies.

Job description

• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Ability to comprehend oral and written communication.
• Proficient measuring skills and the ability to read measuring tapes, micrometers, and calipers.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and documents, blueprints.
• Industrial warehouse experience preferred.
• Experience working with Heavy Equipment preferred.
• Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality.
• Valid Overhead Crane Certification
• Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

• Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
• Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

• Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Steel-toed boots or metatarsal boots
• Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse

External Description

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler -- 1st Shift in the Mobile, AL Facility. The Material Handler per forms duties related to the storage and movement of inventory or equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Receives, places/returns items into stock inventory locations.
• Tags materials for proper identification
• Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery.
• Operates yard truck for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers.
• Operates cranes to load/unload trailers.
• Operates forklift (5k or 10k) to load/unload trailers.
• Securing loaded material onto truck and may load and unload materials.
• Completes and documents production and quality paperwork; follow shop system data collection procedures.
• Performs tasks that include grinding and using an oxy fuel torch.
• Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, including the return of tools and equipment to designated areas.
• Assures all machine operation centers are timely loaded with material for production.
• Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Material Handler.
• Restocks material.
