Job summary

Metals USA in Oakwood, GA is seeking a Material Handler for 1st shift to support the storage and movement of inventory and materials in a busy industrial warehouse. The role requires math, measurement, reading blueprints, and safe operation of cranes and forklifts; experience with heavy equipment and PPE is important.

You will tag materials, prepare orders, and maintain production paperwork while upholding quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Math skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Ability to understand verbal and written communication.
• Proficient measuring skills and ability to read measuring tapes and micrometers.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and documents, blueprints.
• Industrial warehouse experience.
• Experience working with heavy equipment preferred.
• Overhead crane or forklift experience.
• Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality.

Responsibilities

• Receive and return materials into stock locations.
• Tag materials for proper identification.
• Pull and assemble customer orders in order of delivery.
• Operate yard truck for loading/unloading trailers.
• Operate cranes to load/unload trailers.
• Operate forklift (5k or 10k) to load and unload trailers.
• Load and secure material onto truck.
• Complete production and quality paperwork; follow shop system data collection procedures.
• Performs tasks that include grinding and using an oxy fuel torch.
• Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, including the return of tools and equipment to designated areas.
• Assures all machine operation centers are timely loaded with material for production.
• Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Material Handler.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

• Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
• Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

• Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Steel-toed boots or metatarsal boots
• Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse

External Description

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler / 1st Shift in our Oakwood, GA facility. The Material Handler / 1st shift, works under limited supervision, performing duties related to the storage and movement of inventory or equipment. The position reports to Group Leader /Shift Supervisor.

• Receives and returns materials into stock inventory locations
• Tags materials for proper identification
• Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery
• Operates yard truck for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers
• Operates cranes to load and unload trailers
