Job summary

Hope Services operates a retail thrift store and seeks a friendly associate to greet donors and support donation flow. You will unload items, assess quality, pre-sort, and help display merchandise on the floor.

You will work closely with staff to keep the donation area efficient, ensure safety, and provide courteous service to donors and clients, including individuals receiving services. This role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude in a busy retail environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, plus experience in retail/thrift.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English, with basic math aptitude.
  • Able to follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, donors and clients.
  • Support services by working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and assist during donation intake.
  • Unload donations and provide tax receipts; track daily donor counts.
  • Keep donation area neat and organized.
  • Pre-sort and display items, manage materials handling.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed and report accidents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Hope Services clients.
  • Assist store management to get donations to the sales floor promptly.
  • Perform end-of-shift cleanup.

Job description

Purpose

Represents Hope Services at our retail thrift store and is responsible for greeting and assisting donors; unloading, performing initial quality assessment of merchandise, sorting, and ensuring donation receiving area operates efficiently. Provides support services by working with individuals with disabilities.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Greets donors in a courteous manner.
  • Unloads donations from vehicles, offers tax receipts, and maintains accurate daily donor counts.
  • Maintains area observed by donors neat, clean, well organized.
  • Pre-sorts donated goods and places items into designated material handling equipment.
  • Transfers material handling equipment to area to be sorted, graded, and hung.
  • Performs quality control, and disposes unsellable merchandise according to store's disposal policies.
  • Places priced items on display, maintains neatness and cleanliness of displays.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance, personal hygiene, and dress code standards.
  • Works closely with store management and other associates to ensure donations reach sales floor timely.
  • Cleans up all work areas at end of each shift.
  • Demonstrates good work habits for employees and program participants, maintains a positive attitude towards operation of entire facility, and is positive role model for individuals receiving rehabilitation services.
  • Ensures all safety rules are adhered to; reports accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Maintains high level confidentiality regarding Hope Services clients.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent, plus experience working in a retail, thrift, or clothing store.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to make quick decisions regarding merchandise quality.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English (preferred) and have basic math aptitude.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, customers, donors, and persons receiving services.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean, and well‑groomed appearance.
  • Ability to provide support services by working with people with developmental disabilities.
Environmental Conditions

The work environment involves constant physical activity, lifting, moving and sorting large loads of materials throughout the day. May be exposed to dirt and dust.
