Job summary

Arcwood Environmental is seeking a Material Handler to load, unload, process, and store hazardous and nonhazardous waste at our permitted facility. You will prioritize safety, operate a forklift and Bobcat, and ensure waste is handled per EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit requirements.

Ideal candidates have 1+ years of related experience and a 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred). High school diploma or equivalent is required, with a focus on safe, compliant waste management.

Responsibilities

  • Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.
  • Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
  • Operates a fork truck and Bobcat with attachments
  • Utilizes Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
  • Utilizes appropriate PPE as needed including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator
  • Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition
  • Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization

Job description

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Material Handler As a Material Handler you will be responsible for loading, unloading, processing and storing hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility with supervision.

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and consistently maintaining safe practices
  • Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations
  • Operates a fork truck and Bobcat with attachments
  • Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
  • Performs basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed
  • Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues
  • Utilizes barcode system equipment to document certain inventory activities
  • Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
  • Uses Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to match and label inbound materials for storage and shipping of containers to other sites
  • Utilizes proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks
  • Operates a hydraulic baler for cardboard and other materials
  • Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition
  • Utilizes knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit regulations
  • Utilizes Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
  • Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education
