Job summary

Laitram Machine Shop in Harahan, LA is seeking a Material Handler to support our Material Management department. You will operate a forklift, move material, and ensure efficient shop operations while maintaining safe handling and accurate records.

You will receive and put away material, assist with deliveries, help with shipping/receiving, and participate in recycling and coolant disposal where required. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Forklift experience required.
• Self-managed and self-starting individual.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Communicates clearly, verbally and written.
• Proficiency in standard software packages (Excel, Microsoft, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Must be able to lift and move 45 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift to move materials and support shop operations.
• Move material inside and outside the Machine Shop to ensure smooth operations.
• Empty material collection receptacles containing machining chips and coolant.
• Put away received material to assigned locations.
• Assist with deliveries for shipping and receiving, may include dropping off or picking up from local suppliers.
• Responsible for material recycling and logistics to have material picked up.
• Coordinate coolant disposal and recycling coolant when possible.
• Assist with daily shipping and receiving activities when necessary.
