Job Summary
The MAT Nurse Practitioner (MAT NP), at Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility, delivers high-quality, patient-centered care to incarcerated individuals with substance use disorders, with a specialized focus on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). This role combines advanced clinical responsibilities with addiction treatment expertise and is essential to improving health outcomes and continuity of care in the correctional setting. 1 year contract.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive medical and behavioral health assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide ongoing care for patients enrolled in MAT programs.
- Prescribe and monitor MAT medications, including buprenorphine, naltrexone, Sublocade, Brixadi, and Vivitrol, in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Conduct and document medical evaluations in compliance with NCCHC, ACA, PBNDS, and facility-specific standards.
- Perform and interpret laboratory work including ordering labs, reviewing results, and following up appropriately.
- Manage care for both acute and chronic medical conditions, integrating substance use treatment into overall health care delivery.
- Collaborate with MAT nurses, mental health clinicians, and correctional staff to ensure patient safety, medication adherence, and continuity of care.
- Educate patients about MAT, medication safety, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and self-care strategies.
- Participate in grant-related MAT activities, including data entry, monitoring, and reporting in collaboration with the facility’s data team.
- Coordinate with external specialty clinics and community resources to support post-release continuity of care.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of care provided in accordance with HIPAA, facility policy, and professional standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities related to correctional health and MAT.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Active and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse license in the state of employment.
- Current DEA, CDS, and DEA-X waiver (DATA 2000) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Preferred Experience
- At least two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
- Experience in correctional healthcare, addiction treatment, behavioral health, or MAT strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
- Proficient in administering and monitoring MAT medications and managing withdrawal symptoms.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis management abilities.
- Able to function effectively within a secure environment and multidisciplinary team.
- Proficient in electronic medical record systems and basic computer applications (Word, Excel).
- Strong understanding of substance use disorders, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
PHYSICAL & FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts based on site needs.
- May be required to stand, sit, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., or walk for extended periods.
- Must maintain security clearance and pass all required screenings (health, background, etc.).
