Job summary

The West Suburban YMCA is hiring Masters Swim Coaches for our Wells Ave location. You will provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swimmers on the swim team.

Key duties include coaching and instructing swimmers per YMCA guidelines, building relationships with swimmers and parents, coordinating practices and meets, tracking attendance and meet reports, and supervising Junior Swim Coaches as needed. Hourly rate is $16.00–$17.00 based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• CPR/First Aid and AED certifications required.
• USA Swim Coach certifications preferred.
• Lifeguard training certification required.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and instructs swimmers per YMCA guidelines, preparing practices and workouts.
• Builds relationships with swimmers and parents; encourages volunteer involvement.
• Conveys information on swim team, programs and schedules.
• Attends practices and meets as required.
• Maintains attendance and meet records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures; completes incident reports.
• Organizes and puts away swim team equipment; reports damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise Junior Swim Coaches as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on the swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.
• Attends practices and swim meets as required.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, swim meet reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed swim team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise Junior Swim Coaches as assigned, if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum age of 18.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• USA Swim Coach certifications.
• Current Lifeguard Training Certification or Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
• Knowledge of the competitive strokes and techniques, competitive swimming and general water safety.
• Knowledgeable in Team Unify, Meet Manager, Team Manager
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
• Ability to lift equipment
