The Master Welder will work across joints and positions, executing root passes and tube-to-tubesheet welds while adhering to WPS and drawings, ensuring code-compliant, high-quality workmanship.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years welding experience in heavy fabrication or manufacturing.
  • Proficient in interpreting weld procedures (WPS) and drawings.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.
  • Ability to self-inspect and maintain high craftsmanship standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex welding tasks on diverse materials and configurations (P1, P8, P10H, nickel alloys).
  • Execute root passes, structural joints, back gouging, and cleanup of back gouge roots.
  • Fabricate pressure-retaining equipment per customer and code requirements.
  • Conduct tube-to-tube and tube-to-tubesheet welds per ASME QW-193-type specifications.
  • Follow weld procedures and drawings to complete projects accurately.
  • Support both new builds and repair/modification work while maintaining safety and organization.

Job Summary:

The Master Welder plays a critical role in the fabrication of high-specification equipment, ensuring the highest quality welds across a wide variety of materials and configurations. This role requires deep expertise in all major welding processes and the ability to work across all positions and joint types commonly used in pressure-containing and structural applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex welding tasks on materials including but not limited to P1, P8, P10H, and nickel alloys.
  • Execute high-quality welds for root passes, structural joints, back gouging, and clean-up of back gouge roots.
  • Fabricate pressure-retaining equipment with full compliance to customer and code requirements.
  • Perform tube-to-tube and tube-to-tube sheet joints, including ASME QW-193-type welds.
  • Follow and interpret weld procedures (WPS) and detailed engineering drawings to complete jobs accurately.
  • Support fabrication of both new builds and repair/modification projects.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and organization in the work area.
  • Communicate effectively with quality control and engineering teams to ensure all work is code-compliant and meets customer requirements.
  • Must be certified and capable of passing the following:
    • 6G GTAW root with SMAW (stick) fill and cap pipe test
    • 5/8\" diameter tube-to-tube weld test
    • QW-193 tube-to-tubesheet test
    • 3G stick test with back weld, back gouge root, and sub-arc coupon
  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, isometrics, and fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, ability to self-inspect, and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Flexible and able to perform a variety of welding tasks based on project needs.
  • Familiarity with pressure vessel fabrication. (Preferred)
  • Experience in a job-shop or custom manufacturing setting. (Preferred)
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
Education/Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of welding experience in a heavy fabrication or manufacturing environment.
