GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs, recommending products and services, and delivering high-quality professional services focusing on the guest’s overall look. They support the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) by emphasizing performance, guest service, and adherence to operating procedures and standards. A passion for the beauty industry, excellent guest service skills, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist exemplifies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and responsibilities, along with other assigned projects:

Performance

• Perform a variety of hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (if applicable).
• Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250 and productivity targets by providing exceptional guest service and contributing to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink reduction.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver outstanding guest experiences.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and communicate their benefits to guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests promptly and efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams to provide comprehensive guest services.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, complying with state guidelines.
• Adhere to service protocols to ensure a consistent guest experience.
• Use booking and client management systems effectively.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and store operations.
• Follow the dress code and protect company assets through loss prevention practices.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required.

• Relevant prior work experience required.

• Proficiency in the latest salon techniques across hair, makeup, and ear piercing; willingness to develop skills in all service categories.
• Competence in using salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
