GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) by emphasizing performance, guest service, and process compliance. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service skills, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Stylist champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and additional assigned tasks:

Performance

• Perform various hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250 and meet productivity targets through excellent guest service and sales efforts.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to provide an exceptional guest experience.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and communicate their benefits effectively to guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams to ensure a comprehensive guest experience.
• Develop professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver outstanding service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols for consistency and quality.
• Use booking and client management systems to schedule and follow up with guests.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in the salon and store areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code and loss prevention practices.
• Perform additional operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required.

Experience

• Relevant prior work experience required.

Skills

• Proficiency in the latest salon techniques across all service categories and aptitude to develop skills further.
• Ability to operate salon equipment and handle chemicals safely.
• Strong communication skills and ability to recommend and sell products.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, building strong client relationships.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Continuous mobility, lifting up to 10 lbs., and frequent bending and reaching.
• Ability to stand for long periods and manipulate objects during shifts.
