GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Master Stylist engages guests, provides consultations on hair care, and recommends products and services. They deliver high-quality professional services, focusing on the guest’s overall look, and support the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager through performance, people, and process responsibilities. A passion for beauty, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Master Stylist exemplifies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties (and other assigned tasks):
Performance
- Perform hair design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (if applicable).
- Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250 and meet productivity targets by delivering excellent guest service and supporting retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
- Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
- Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to elevate guest experience.
- Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, understanding their ingredients and benefits to better assist guests.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
People
- Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
- Serve all guests promptly and efficiently, including walk-ins.
- Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
- Develop professional relationships with peers and brand partners for collaborative guest service.
- Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
- Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
- Use established service protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality guest experiences.
- Utilize booking and client management systems for scheduling and follow-up.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure readiness.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational standards across the store.
- Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Follow loss prevention practices to protect assets and deliver excellent service.
- Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Cosmetology license required.
Experience
- Relevant prior work experience required.
Skills
- Proficiency in latest salon techniques across all service categories and a willingness to develop skills further.
- Ability to operate salon equipment and handle chemicals safely.
- Ability to demonstrate and sell hair care and makeup products.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to build and maintain a strong client base.

- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
