GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) with performance, guest service, and process adherence. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and strong communication skills are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Stylist upholds Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties and other assigned projects:

Performance

• Perform hair services such as design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (if applicable).
• Achieve or exceed weekly sales goals of $1250 through excellent guest service and contribute to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and shrink reduction.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintain punctual and regular attendance.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures according to regulations.
• Adhere to service protocols for consistent guest experiences.
• Use booking and client systems effectively.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain store cleanliness and operational standards.
• Follow the dress code and loss prevention practices.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Cosmetology license

Experience: Relevant work experience required

Skills:

• Proficiency in salon techniques across all service categories and ability to develop skills further.
• Proficiency with salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain client relationships.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility, lifting up to 10 lbs, bending, reaching, twisting, and standing for long periods.
