GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through performance, people, and process. Passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and responsibilities, as well as other assigned projects:

Performance

• Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Achieve a weekly sales goal of $1250 and meet productivity targets through exceptional guest service, contributing to store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink reduction.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver outstanding guest experiences.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, understanding their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests promptly and efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Foster professional relationships with peers and brand partners to ensure exceptional service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
• Adhere to service protocols for consistent guest experiences.
• Use booking and client management systems effectively for scheduling and repeat appointments.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and store operations.
• Follow the dress code and protect company assets through loss prevention practices.
• Perform other operational duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required.

Experience

• Previous relevant work experience required.

Skills

• Proficiency in latest salon techniques across all service categories and ability to develop skills further.
• Proficiency with equipment and chemicals used in technical services.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS
