Job summary

DoorDash Labs is seeking a master-level Prototype Machinist & Fabrication Specialist to transform complex designs into high-precision hardware for autonomous delivery robots. You will operate 5-axis CNCs, lathes, and manual mills, oversee 3D printing fleets, and craft custom fixtures while collaborating with Mechanical Engineers on manufacturability.

Based in San Francisco, this in-person role requires physical shop work, project leadership, and hands-on prototyping across advanced fabrication

Qualifications

7+ years in a high-precision machine shop or prototype setting.
Mastery of 5-axis CNC programming and operation, lathes and manual mills.
Proficiency with precision measurement tools and CAD/CAM tooling.
Hands-on experience with professional 3D printing platforms (Formlabs, Markforged, Carbon).
Proficient in CAD/CAM software for toolpath generation and model navigation.

Responsibilities

Operate and program 5-axis CNC machines, CNC lathes and manual mills to produce high-tolerance prototypes.
Oversee post-processing and maintenance of 3D printing (FDM, SLS, SLA).
Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and tooling for complex assemblies.
Interpret drawings and CAD models to meet exact specs; advise on DFM improvements.
Maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant shop and manage machinist consumables inventory.
Support assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting of robotic delivery platforms.
