Job summary

The Weir Master Pattern Maker role in Candler, Florida is onsite. You will craft precise wooden patterns and core boxes from laminated stock, interpret blueprints, and ensure tolerances using calipers and micrometers.

We seek experienced woodworkers with strong drafting skills, knowledge of foundry math, and a collaborative mindset to support production and safety initiatives at our Florida facility.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in precision woodworking, lamination, and safe operation of shop machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D CAD schematics.
  • Proficiency in foundry mathematics including calculating dimensions, draft angles, and shrink allowances.
  • Background in quality inspection using precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Pattern Construction: select, cure, and laminate wood and craft patterns and core boxes.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: read schematics and CAD models to compute dimensions and draft angles.
  • Quality Control: inspect patterns with calipers and micrometers to meet tolerances.
  • Tooling Maintenance: repair/modify patterns and tooling to extend life.
  • Production Support: set up pattern equipment and prepare patterns for runs.
  • Safety First: contribute to a zero-harm safety culture.
  • Travel Requirements: minimal travel; onsite in Candler, FL.

What you’ll do
  • Pattern Construction: Skillfully select, cure, and laminate wood stocks, then use hand tools and precision machinery to sculpt highly accurate, durable patterns and core boxes that serve as the foundation for industrial castings.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze complex engineering schematics and 3D CAD models daily to calculate precise dimensions, shrink allowances, and draft angles essential for successful casting extraction.
  • Quality Control: Perform rigorous dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, and templates to ensure patterns meet exact engineering specifications within strict tolerances before production.
  • Tooling Maintenance: Inspect, repair, and modify existing patterns and tooling to extend their lifespan and accommodate engineering changes, ensuring continuous production efficiency.
  • Production Support: Build, mount, rig, and set up pattern equipment, perform pattern changes for production runs, and ensure timely preparation of patterns according to production schedules.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.
  • Travel Requirements: Minimal travel expected; primarily onsite work in the Candler, Florida facility.
What you’ll bring
  • Must-haves: Extensive experience in precision woodworking, lamination, and safe operation of shop machinery and hand tools.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD schematics.
  • Proficiency in foundry mathematics including calculating dimensions, draft angles, and metal shrink allowances.
  • Solid background in quality inspection using precision measuring instruments to verify tight tolerances.
Nice-to-haves
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks and CAM software like CamWorks or NX CAM.
  • Understanding of foundry processes and casting techniques.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
