Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for performing mechanical equipment maintenance at the assigned facility.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on buildings and production equipment, including mechanical, pneumatic, electrical systems, machining, welding, and carpentry.
- Use a variety of tools and materials safely and efficiently, including power tools, hand tools, machine shop equipment, electrical testing equipment, and various materials like metals, plastics, and wood. May also operate forklifts and other lifting equipment.
- Notify appropriate internal and external resources for major repairs, providing accurate communication and documentation.
- Collaborate with machine vendors for repairs and parts ordering.
- Assist in installing and maintaining equipment.
- Complete forms, records, and reports to document department projects and tasks accurately.
- Support the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs.
- Maintain respectful working relationships and participate in teamwork and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Be flexible and cross-train to support other departments as needed.
- Keep work areas neat and safe, adhering to safety policies.
- Perform light construction tasks like building shelving or storage bins.
- Work irregular hours or return to the plant for emergencies or special assignments as required.
- Install or replace electrical wiring and devices under a Master Electrician's license if qualified.
- Assist with minor computer setups or repairs with support from the IS Department.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to read and follow instructions, schematics, and manuals.
- Proficiency in measuring and calculating figures accurately.
- Ability to apply common sense and solve problems involving concrete variables.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Lift Truck Operator License or relevant certifications.
- Physical ability to handle, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience within the last 2 years.
- Preferred: Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Maintenance degree, Journeyman Card.
- Must pass a mechanical aptitude test.
- Availability to work shutdowns, holidays, weekends, and overtime with short notice.
- Own basic hand tools.
