Job summary

Aptar is seeking a Master Machinist based in Cary, IL. This position is onsite at our Cary plant.

This role performs precision machining of parts for repair, maintenance and construction of high-speed assembly and prototype equipment. As a Master Machinist, you will conceptualize, design and develop mechanisms for Toolroom projects, repair assembly machinery, produce spare parts, assist with prototypes, perform machining and may lead or train other machinists.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Must be able to machine parts to close tolerances of +/- .0005 using conventional toolroom equipment.
• Familiarity with machining ferrous, non-ferrous and synthetic materials and alloys.
• CNC mill/lathe operation and/or set up experience preferred.
• Welding experience and ability to weld.
• Must possess design skills and be able to sketch machined parts clearly.
• Ability to work with production personnel to design and troubleshoot high speed assembly equipment and prototypes.
• Must be able to perform trigonometric functions and build/rebuild production machinery.
• General machinist hand tools experience (micrometers, calipers, indicator, edge-finder, square, etc.).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for the shift.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design and develop mechanisms for Toolroom projects.
• Repair assembly machinery and component parts to support Manufacturing.
• Produce spare parts for assembly equipment.
• Assist in development and production of prototype, measuring and experimental tooling.
• Perform custom and repair machining of plant related equipment.
• May perform mechanical drawings and possibly lead/instruct other machinists.
