Job summary

Aptar in Cary, IL is seeking a Master Machinist to design and develop mechanisms for Toolroom projects, working independently to repair assembly machinery and produce spare parts for equipment. The role includes training new machinists, leading work areas, and collaborating with production teams on prototypes and tooling, using precision machining to close tolerances and sketch parts as needed.

Qualifications

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand through shift.

Position: Master Machinist

Location: Cary, IL – onsite at our Cary plant.

As a Master Machinist, You Will

• Conceptualize, design and develop mechanisms for Toolroom projects.
• Work independently without supervision.
• Repair assembly machinery and component parts to support the Manufacturing Department.
• Produce spare parts for assembly equipment.
• Assist departments in development and production of prototype, measuring and experimental tooling.
• Perform custom and repair machining of plant-related equipment.
• May perform mechanical drawings.
• May lead and/or instruct other machinists on projects.
• Train and orient new machinists.
• Act as team/work area leader to support the team concept.

Who We Are Looking For

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.

Required Skills

• Machine parts to close tolerances (+/-.0005) using conventional toolroom equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder, etc.).
• Familiar with machining ferrous, non-ferrous and synthetic materials and alloys.
• CNC mill/lathe operation and/or set up experience preferred.
• Welding experience.
• Design skillset is required.
• Ability to work with production personnel to design and troubleshoot high-speed assembly equipment and prototypes.
• Capable of producing clear sketches of machined parts.
• Proficiency in welding.
• Ability to perform trigonometric functions.Ability to build/rebuild production machinery.
• General machinist hand tools (micrometers, calipers, indicator, edge‑finder, square, scale, wrenches, screwdrivers, mallet, hammer, etc. and locking toolbox).
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally during shift.
• Able to stand/walk for the entire shift.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the starting salary range for this role is $35/hr – $45/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
