The Master Hoist Technician will serve as a technical resource for other technicians, provide guidance on complex repairs, assist with training and development, and help ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer and company standards. This position requires flexibility to travel throughout Texas and other locations based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
  • Install, assemble, commission, test, dismantle, and prepare hoist systems for transportation.
  • Troubleshoot 480V three-phase electrical systems, AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, motor controls, brakes, relays, breakers, and industrial control circuits.
  • Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, technical bulletins, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Use computers, diagnostic software, meters, and testing equipment to identify electrical and mechanical failures.
  • Lead complex repairs and provide technical direction to Hoist Technicians, Junior Hoist Technicians, and apprentices.
  • Assist with training technicians on proper inspection, diagnostic, repair, installation, and safety procedures.
  • Review equipment problems and available technical information to develop and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements to increase reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Perform final operational testing and quality-control inspections following major repairs, installations, or modifications.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and after-hours service calls as required.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, project personnel, manufacturers, and internal departments regarding equipment status and repair recommendations.
  • Ensure company, customer, manufacturer, OSHA, and jobsite-specific safety requirements are followed at all times.
  • Complete accurate daily timesheets, inspection reports, service documentation, parts requests, and work orders.
  • Maintain company-issued tools, diagnostic equipment, vehicles, and assigned inventory in a professional and serviceable condition.
  • Support field operations, project planning, equipment mobilizations, and service scheduling as needed.
  • Maintain flexibility and an understanding that employees may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the needs and goals of the company.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience servicing, repairing, installing, and troubleshooting construction hoists, industrial elevators, or similar lifting equipment.
  • Advanced experience working with 480V three-phase electrical systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical symbols, and industrial control systems.
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with electrical and electronic components down to the component level.
  • Experience troubleshooting programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, three-phase motors, AC/DC motors, brakes, relays, breakers, contactors, and motor control systems.
  • Experience with Alimak, Pega, or similar construction hoist and industrial elevator systems strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience diagnosing gearboxes, drive systems, brakes, couplings, bearings, and related mechanical components.

  • Ability to review technical problems, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions in the field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, professional, and customer-focused work environment.
