Job summary

The City of North Miami Beach seeks a Licensed Master Electrician to oversee installation, maintenance and repair of city electrical systems across facilities. The role requires reading blueprints, coordinating with the Facilities Manager, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities include inspections, emergency response, and supervision/training of staff in electrical work. Work is conducted in outdoor and indoor environments with adherence to applicable codes and safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of experience as a Licensed Journeyman Electrician in commercial/industrial installations, maintenance, and repairs.
• Possess Master Electrician certification and Florida driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair city facilities electrical systems.
• Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Install, repair, and replace electrical components and wiring.
• Respond to emergency electrical needs as required.
• Review engineered drawings and specifications for city facilities.
• Coordinate with Facilities Manager on projects and upgrades.

Job description

The Master Electrician is responsible for performing a wide variety of assignments requiring the application of electrical trade skills which may include the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems, lighting equipment, generators, transformers, streetlights, and other electrical systems and equipment. Work assignments may be oral or written and may be accompanied by sketches, blueprints, schematics, or electrical diagrams. Work is inspected while in progress and/or upon completion of compliance with specifications and standards. Reports to the Facilities Manager.

• Maintains and repairs electrical systems under City Facilities Management.
• Performs regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all city facilities electrical systems. Maintains all time clocks throughout the city.
• Installs and maintain and repairs electrical requirements for security systems at specific city locations.
• Maintains lighting systems at various city/utility locations.
• Maintains stand-by auxiliary power systems for backup power at city locations maintained by Facilities Management.
• Coordinate, lay-out and install electrical requirements as directed by Facilities Manager.
• Responds to emergency electrical needs as required by Facilities Management.
• Performs repairs as indicated by 40-year-recertification inspections.
• Troubleshoots problems, develops, and implements action plans in response to electrical equipment failures, including recommending upgrades when applicable.
• Reviews engineered drawings and specifications for electrical systems designed for new city facilities.
• Approves or redesigns electrical projects as needed and requested.
• Assists with maintenance and repair for city facilities HVAC systems.
• Installs conduit, wire and all other related electrical components that may be required for electrical systems repairs, maintenance, or expansion.
• Qualifies City by Permitting projects as instructed by the Facilities Manager.
• Understands and actively participates in environmental, health and safety responsibilities by following established policies, procedures, and training guidelines.
• May provide training to employees in lower classifications.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; and five (5) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience as a Licensed Journeyman Electrician working in general commercial and/or industrial electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs.

Special Qualifications:

Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirements exist at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Possess certification as a Master Electrician.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily outdoors and indoors where exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and noises is typically encountered during collection duties in all weather conditions.
