Job summary

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) seeks an experienced Troubleshooter to operate, monitor and repair the URD distribution system within a framework of safety policies. This full-time role requires investigating outages, performing repairs, and coordinating with the Distribution System Operators.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, two years journeyman Lineman experience, and be willing to live within 25 miles of Sacramento.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two years journeyman Lineman experience.
• Must live within 25 miles of Sacramento reporting HQ.
• Be on call for emergencies and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Investigate outages; locate and isolate faults and replace fuses.
• Determine materials needed to restore service and repair lines.
• Check substations; read/load voltage with meters.
• Perform field switching; operate breakers and switches; log readings.
• Address customer complaints; test and maintain street lights.
• Disconnect/ reconnect service; collect payments as needed.
• Perform tree trimming; inspect lines and equipment.
• Splice primary/secondary cables; perform HV DC tests.
• Conduct phasing tests; locate de-energized cables safely.
• Take primary clearances; direct work of others.
• Maintain logs and related paperwork.
• Perform other related duties as required.
