Job summary

VERSANT Media is seeking a Master Control Operator to support on‑air operations across live networks and streaming platforms. You will manage live events, commercial/marketing changes, and logs to ensure impeccable broadcast reliability and service for news, entertainment, and sports.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, attention to detail, flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to perform multiple control room functions to maintain seamless on-air execution.

  • Monitor continuity and availability across networks (linear, streaming, VOD).
  • Execute control room roles (Technical Director, Commercial Integration, Associate Director) as needed.
  • Handle ingest and quality control for on-air content across platforms.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team and deliver reliable on-air schedules.

Job description

Work with a driven and highly motivated team to support the on-air operations of Versant Media. As a Master Control Operator at Versant, you will be responsible for all aspects of maintaining and ensuring the reliability of all Versant Networks and streaming platforms including live execution of events for news, entertainment, and sports. Will be required to monitor and recover live networks for all Versant media outlets.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
  • Perform the duties of a live sports master control operator in a fast-paced environment, including manipulating commercial playlists, executing program/commercial/marketing changes, managing playlists, sending logs for reconciliation and maintaining the overall reliability and execution of live events for network and streaming broadcasts.
  • Monitor and maintain the continuity and availability for various networks (including linear, streaming and VOD services).
  • Perform control room duties (Technical Director, Commercial Integration, and Associate Director) to support live events.
  • Receive and execute directions to successfully execute the desired traffic integration of the operating networks.
  • Perform ingest and quality control duties for all on-air content airing on streaming platforms and linear networks.
  • Work well within a team environment.
  • Exceed expectations in on-air reliability and customer service for all applicable clients. Ensure reliability of on-air schedules in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Ability to be flexible in approach and respond well to pressure.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting and processing skills.
  • Attention to detail and thinking ahead to alleviate potential issues.
  • This position requires the ability to work any scheduled time, including nights, weekends and holidays to support the 24x7 on-air broadcast environment. Must be available to work on weekends.
Desired Characteristics
  • BA/BS in related field.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and pressure situations.
  • 1 + year experience in an On-air broadcast environment with a proven understanding of live "on-air" broadcast operations execution.
  • 1 + year of experience in a live environment, specifically a strong background in executing live event broadcasts.
  • 1 + year experience demonstrating an overall understanding & knowledge of the television production process, broadcast operations & news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements.
  • 1 + year of proven knowledge of switchers, routers, communications, ingest and automation systems including cloud-based systems.
  • 1 + year of experience in ingest and quality control processes.
  • Proven leadership, high energy level, strong attention to detail and strong team and communication skills.
  • Extensive and significant experience, understanding and knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processes.
  • Technical experience with automated, real-time systems, digital video and audio troubleshooting and test techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with work rules and scheduling.
