Job summary

FWL Surface Solutions is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician to serve as a working team leader, performing the most complex diagnostics and repairs on gasoline, diesel, and fleet vehicles while ensuring safety, environmental, and manufacturer standards. You will mentor technicians, coordinate across departments to minimize downtime, review repair orders, and maintain quality through inspections, with a Monday–Friday schedule 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • ASE or State Certifications required.
  • Extensive experience in automotive and fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Leadership experience in a repair facility or fleet maintenance environment.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic software, scan tools, and vehicle information systems.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be available Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of gasoline, diesel, and fleet vehicles.
  • Review repair orders for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and manufacturer standards.
  • Conduct quality control inspections to verify repairs are completed safely and correctly before vehicles are released.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain proficiency with diagnostic equipment, software, and evolving automotive technologies.
  • Coordinate with service writers, managers, vendors, and parts personnel to ensure accurate repair planning and parts availability.
  • Diagnose and resolve recurring vehicle issues and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Promote a positive team environment through leadership, communication, and professional conduct.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and fleet expectations.

Job description

The Lead Automotive Technician serves as a working team leader responsible for performing the most complex diagnostics and repairs on gasoline, diesel, and fleet vehicles while providing quality oversight for the shop. This role ensures all work meets safety, environmental, and manufacturer standards, mentors fellow technicians, and coordinates across departments to keep vehicles road-ready and downtime minimal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of gasoline, diesel, and fleet vehicles.
  • Review repair orders for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and manufacturer standards.
  • Conduct quality control inspections to verify repairs are completed safely and correctly before vehicles are released.

  • Maintain high first-time repair quality through accurate diagnostics, effective troubleshooting, and proper repair execution.
  • Complete quality control inspections before vehicle release to support safe, reliable, and compliant repairs.
  • Reduce vehicle downtime by coordinating timely repair planning, parts availability, and cross-department communication.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, company, and manufacturer standards during all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Support technician development by mentoring team members and promoting consistent diagnostic and repair practices.
