Job summary

IMI plc in Massachusetts seeks a Mass Spectrometry Scientist to lead development efforts for products and applications related to electron multipliers and filaments. You will test concepts, generate new ideas, and stay ahead of technologies through conferences and self-guided research.

The role supports sales and manufacturing with high-level technical knowledge, mentors staff, and documents results while maintaining lab instruments. A PhD or equivalent experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD or extensive experience in analytical instrumentation development.
• Hands-on experience with instrumentation research and development in academia or industry (3–5 years).
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with hypothesis testing and statistics.
• Experience in experimental design and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Support product development by testing and analysis of new concepts, designs, or applications.
• Generate novel ideas and approaches to scientific challenges for product development.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies by conferences and self-guided research.
• Support sales and manufacturing with high-level technical knowledge when needed.
• Identify and mitigate scientific and operational risks to support production.
• Mentor others by providing training and support.
• Document experimental results and maintain a knowledge database for future efforts.
• Draft technical proposals and report milestones to management.
• Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
