Job summary

The University of Miami’s Frost Institute for Chemistry and Molecular Science seeks an outstanding Scientist (Facility Director) to lead the Center for Mass Spectrometry. You will oversee staff, manage instrumentation, and guide proteomics and HDX-MS workflows in a cutting-edge research environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology is required.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in mass spectrometry and shared-resource laboratory settings.
• Extensive hands-on experience operating high-resolution mass spectrometers (Orbitrap family).
• Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data and solve problems.
• Expertise in biochemical sample processing and quantitative proteomics workflows (e.g., TMT, DIA, DDA, PRM, HDX-MS).

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operations of the mass spectrometry core facility and provide technical leadership.
• Maintain cutting-edge instrumentation and lead scientific strategy for chemistry and molecular biology research.
• Collaborate with investigators on MS experimental design, sample prep, protocols, and data analysis.
• Coordinate with ThermoFisher engineers to maximize instrument uptime and perform routine maintenance.
• Prepare research proposals and assist in funding applications.
• Contribute to manuscripts and grant applications; mentor students and staff.
