Job summary

City of Miami Beach is seeking a semi-skilled apprentice helper to assist masons and site supervisors on masonry, concrete, stone, and cement projects in Miami, Florida. Duties include forming, placing, finishing and repairing curbs and sidewalks, transporting workers and materials by truck, and following safety procedures.

Requirements: six months of verifiable concrete finishing and form-building experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brakes

Qualifications

• Six months of verifiable experience in concrete finishing and form building.
• Driver's license required.
• Must obtain Class B CDL with air brakes within 90 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assists in constructing masonry, concrete, stone and cement structures.
• Forms, places, finishes and repairs concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
• Drives a truck to transport workers and materials to job sites.
• Adheres to standard safety procedures.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relations with employees and the public.
• Performs related work as required.

Job description

Semi-skilled work at the apprentice level as a helper to masons or other supervisors working with masonry.

• Assists in the construction of a variety of masonry, stone, concrete, and cement structures to assist in the laying of cement block and bricks in auxiliary buildings and structures.

• Assists in the forming, placing, finishing, and repair of concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

• Drives a truck in the transporting of workers and materials to and from locations.

• Adheres to standard safety procedures.

• Establishes and maintains effective working relations with employees and the public.

• Performs related work as required.

• Six (6) months verifiable experience in concrete finishing work and form building.

• Driver's license.

• Obtain Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes within 90 days of appointment.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.

• Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

• Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, and kneeling.

• Some crawling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.

• Heavy lifting - excessive bending and kneeling.
