Job summary

The City of Miami Beach is seeking a semi-skilled apprentice helper to support masons and supervisors on a variety of masonry projects across the city. This role focuses on hands-on masonry tasks and basic construction support.

Responsibilities include concrete finishing, forming, placing, finishing, repairing curbs and sidewalks, and operating a truck to move workers and materials. A valid driver's license is required, with a Class B CDL (air brakes) needed within 90 days of appointment.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months verifiable experience in concrete finishing work and form building.
• Driver's license.
• Obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes within 90 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in constructing masonry, stone, concrete, and cement structures.
• Assist in forming, placing, finishing, and repairing curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
• Drive a truck to transport workers and materials to and from locations.
• Adhere to standard safety procedures.
• Establish and maintain good working relations with employees and the public.
• Perform related work as required.

Job description

• Assists in the construction of a variety of masonry, stone, concrete, and cement structures to assist in the laying of cement block and bricks in auxiliary buildings and structures.


• Assists in the forming, placing, finishing, and repair of concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.


• Drives a truck in the transporting of workers and materials to and from locations.


• Adheres to standard safety procedures.


• Establishes and maintains effective working relations with employees and the public.


• Performs related work as required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.


• Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine.


• Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, and kneeling.


• Some crawling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.


• Heavy lifting - excessive bending and kneeling.
