Job description

General Summary:

The Marketing Videographer ("MV") films and edits the majority of polished, public-facing video pieces used by UMass Boston's Division of Marketing & Engagement to market the university programs, efforts, and brand. Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Engagement ("AVC"), as part of the division's marketing department and in collaboration with the division's departments of communications, creative services, and website services, the MV strives to create final video pieces of professional quality that are persuasive and visually stunning.

The MV is adept at gathering dynamic video and sound in the field, marrying it seamlessly with existing video assets, and editing with an eye for detail as well as a focus on quick turnaround. Final video pieces are scripted and unscripted, ranging from 15 to 30-second social media spots to 3-minute-plus interview and narrated videos. Pieces live on channels including the official university website, Youtube, social media, and connect TV.

We're looking for someone who brings a fresh perspective and new ideas that make their work stand out in the crowded higher education marketplace. You'll be working with an enthusiastic team of marketers, designers, communications experts, and content creators. Our division acts more like a startup, testing new ideas and learning from the experience. We care about your health and well-being, and whenever possible, we have fun!

Applicants must provide link to a video portfolio or reel for consideration.

Examples of Duties:

  • Films high-quality video and audio of the university's brand, programs, and people relating to organic and paid video marketing campaigns as assigned. Flexes schedule as needed within reason to capture visually stunning moments on video.

  • Edits and finalizes scripted and unscripted videos as assigned for marketing campaigns with special attention to high-quality visuals and audio, color grading, music cues, video subject releases, copyright, and accessibility. Scripts and assignments are provided, and a member of the marketing team typically field produces.

  • Adheres to university brand and style guidelines.

  • Works collaboratively with members of the marketing team and other departments, including communications, creative services, and website services, to avoid overlap of duties and meet shared goals on time and within scope. MV does not typically cover university news events or act as a general asset-gathering videographer absent a script/assignment.

  • Serves as a resource for filming and editing best practices and occasionally assists with video projects in other departments and divisions as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years experience as a professional, full-time videographer

  • Strong portfolio showing a range of commercial work

  • Proficiency in editing with Adobe Premier, including ability to match existing broll with new assets as best as possible

  • Broad knowledge of current video, sound, and lighting equipment use

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to connect with strangers, capacity to respond to criticism, collaborative problem-solving, and good judgment

MV may be required to work occasionally outside of business hours in order to capture video, including rare night and weekend assignments, with business-day time flexed accordingly.

Only Internal candidates in the Professional Staff Bargaining Unit will be considered during the first 10 business days of the posting. All other candidates will be considered after that period.
