Job summary

Associated Students at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, seeks a Marketing Student Assistant to support branding, content, and promotional activities. The role coordinates production and distribution of materials, drafts content, and administers ASI’s social media strategy.

You will work with a team to develop campaigns, manage digital communications, assist events, and serve as a program ambassador. Requires enrolled Cal Poly student and strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills;

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled Cal Poly student with 6 units (graduate students must carry 4 units).
  • Marketing, journalism, or public relations major preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and have great time management and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Photography skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in social and digital media.
  • Experience with customer service.
  • Experience with marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations.
  • Experience with administration, supervision, leadership, or management.
  • Experience with ASI program participation preferred.
  • General knowledge of program services.
  • Self-starter
  • Positive attitude, detail, and customer-oriented with excellent multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with ensuring that ASI program identity standards, professionalism, and consistency are maintained and met through production of collateral material, display cases, promotional material, and marketing information.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and revisions of the ASI Marketing/Communication Plan.
  • Generate creative, original content and assist with management of ASI’s social media marketing strategy across all platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube.
  • Create and disseminate digital content, including but not limited to apps, e-newsletters, press releases, Cal Poly Now posts, and presentations for ASI programs and services.
  • Create, edit, and review written copy, including but not limited to blogs, e-newsletters, press releases, Cal Poly Now, Cal Poly Portal Announcements, email communications, and presentations for ASI programs and services.
  • Support market research and assessment efforts (surveys, focus groups, campus needs analysis, etc.).
  • Coordinate and/or assist with promotions of ASI programs and services.
  • Gather and organize content for graphic requests and communication plans.
  • Distribute final digital assets to appropriate areas for posting.
  • Post and deliver marketing materials; distribute materials to ASI programs and other campus organizations.
  • Set-up promotional displays.
  • Work as an ASI representative at events when available and serve as a knowledgeable program ambassador at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service while maintaining positive, professional relationships with staff and campus community members.
  • Assist in the planning of special promotions or events and coordination of special projects, including but not limited to sponsorships, scheduling, contracts, etc.
  • Collaborate and assist in the coordination of public relations and marketing for ASI programs and services.
  • Develop and implement creative and original marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Act as liaison and outreach facilitator between campus groups/clubs/residence halls, promotional agencies and ASI programs.
  • Assist and when necessary, coordinate photographers or videographers and participants during promotional photo or video shoots.
  • Collaborate with ASI graphic designers, photographers, and videographers on marketing campaigns and collateral material.
  • Research, identify, and apply new strategies or tools for marketing, outreach, and communication efforts.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours, attend all mandatory meetings/workshops/retreats, and support a safe work environment.
  • Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
  • Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.

Job description

Definition and Purpose

Under the supervision of Assistant Coordinator—Marketing (Communications and Outreach), the Marketing Student Assistant addresses the needs of the Public Relations, Communications, and Marketing Department and ASI programs and services in researching, implementing, and developing guidelines and procedures for marketing and communications of the ASI brand and events. This position is responsible for coordinating production and distribution of promotional materials and requests, drafting and editing content, administering ASI’s social media marketing strategy, developing strategies to increase participation in sponsored activities and programs, and representing the ASI brand across ASI social media platforms and at events as needed.

This position is based at the Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Compensation and Hours
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $16.90 per hour
  • Hourly Pay Range: $16.90 per hour - $16.90 per hour

Requires summer term work availability.

Requires a minimum of two consecutive terms of work availability.
