Job summary

The Marketing Internship provides hands-on experience in strategic communication, content creation, community engagement, and internal communications within a member-owned cooperative environment. This internship offers meaningful, real-world experience supporting communications for a member-owned electric cooperative and a growing rural broadband provider. Interns gain exposure to strategic messaging, community engagement, internal communications, and public-facing marketing efforts that directly impact the communities we serve. While candidates from all accredited institutions will be considered, preference may be given to students who are members of Craighead Electric Cooperative or who are attending colleges within Craighead Electric and Empower Broadband's service area.

The chosen student will receive a $500.00 stipend for the 2026 fall semester and must complete 120 internship hours with the Cooperative. The primary work location will be at headquarters in Jonesboro, though occasional travel within the Cooperative's service area may be necessary. The student will be responsible for any expenses related to driving or travel.

The intern will report directly to the Vice President of Corporate Communications & Public Relations and will assist with a wide range of marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives representing both Craighead Electric and Empower Broadband.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Creative & Member Communications Support

Assist with the preparation and execution of creative materials, including but not limited to: Social media graphics, short-form video content, and reels; Member emails and digital communications; Print materials such as mailers and bill inserts; Promotional content for member-facing platforms (including SmartHub).

Support communication efforts that inform, educate, and engage cooperative members across multiple channels.

Assist with gathering information, drafting content, and coordinating materials for press releases and media-related communications, as needed.

Community Engagement & Events

Assist with planning, preparation, and on-site support for community events such as: Business Expos and job fairs; School career days; Events hosted by chambers of commerce, schools, and community organizations within the cooperative's service territory

Help represent the cooperative and broadband subsidiary in a professional, positive manner at public-facing events.

Support promotional efforts for youth and scholarship initiatives, including: Lineman Scholarship, Keith Blocker Memorial Scholarship, Co-op Cares Scholarship, and Youth Tour Delegate Program

Assist with outreach efforts targeted toward high school juniors and seniors within the service area.

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

Assist with internal communications initiatives, including: Development and distribution of the internal employee newsletter and Employee-focused messaging and announcements

Help plan and coordinate employee engagement activities such as: Employee appreciation days, Employee breakfasts and recognition events and Holiday parties and internal celebrations

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current enrollment in an undergraduate program related to: Marketing, Strategic Communication, Mass Communications, Communication Studies, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication tools.

Skill with managing social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and similar platforms.

Skill and proficiency in the use of computers, copiers, calculators, and Microsoft Office Platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Skill in verbal and written communication.

Skill in time management, organization, and attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize the completion of multiple, time-sensitive tasks, and meet deadlines.

Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity.

Ability to communicate in both oral and written form with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to understand, interpret, and observe Craighead Electric policies, procedures, programs, and safety rules and regulations to effectively carry out job duties.

Special Requirements

Must have a valid Driver's License.

Occasional travel within the Cooperative's service territory may be necessary at times.

Working Conditions and Mental or Physical Requirements

Must be able to remain in a stationary position continuously. Will frequently move inside or outside the office space. Position will continuously operate a computer and other office machinery and communicate with others. Occasionally lifts objects up to 20 pounds. Work is performed indoors.
