Status: Full-time, exempt (will also consider a strong part-time candidate)

Salary: $60,000-$75,000, depending on experience

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Newton, MA (on-site)

Why You'll Love This Role

New Art Center is seeking a creative, organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative Marketing & Communications Manager to help advance our mission through storytelling and community engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategy and execution, creating New Art's overarching communications plan and crafting compelling written communications to connect people of all ages with the transformative power of art in new ways.

Working closely with the Executive Director and program staff, you'll lead marketing and communications initiatives, supervise a small team of interns, and help shape how New Art shares its story with our community.

From newsletters and social media to fundraising and donor communications, you'll play a key role in strengthening the organization's impact and visibility. If you're energized by meaningful work, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to help a vibrant community arts organization grow, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do
1. Marketing & Communications
  • Develop and implement an annual communications and marketing strategy to build brand awareness, promote programs, increase program enrollment, strengthen community engagement and loyalty, and support fundraising initiatives.
  • Lead marketing and promotional efforts for programs, exhibitions, events, exhibitions, membership, partnerships, fundraising appeals, and donor communications.
  • Write compelling content and execute integrated marketing campaigns across email, social media, print, and web based on input from staff (e.g., newsletters, website content and updates, press releases, fundraising appeals).
  • Develop and manage the multi-channel marketing and communications content/editorial calendar, steering content production and distribution across all channels.
  • Build and maintain a consistent brand identity, voice, and visual standards across all communications.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors, including designers, printers, photographers, web developers, and other creative partners as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and fundraising campaigns using enrollment, engagement, email, website, and donation metrics, recommending improvements based on results.
  • Research and monitor the arts non-profit landscape and introduce new, creative marketing and communications strategies to reach the New Art community and beyond.
2. Content Production / Digital Asset Management
  • Develop, organize, and maintain a searchable library of photography, video, artwork, participant stories, testimonials, and other digital assets for use across marketing, fundraising, grant writing, and donor communications.
  • Create and maintain a library of boilerplate language, program descriptions, and supporting impact data, and assist with funder reports and fiscal- and calendar year-end appeals.
  • Coordinate the creation, organization, tagging, and ongoing management of content, ensuring high-quality assets are collected, archived, and leveraged across print, digital, email, social media, and fundraising communications.
3. Team Supervision
  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise marketing interns each season/semester, assigning projects and providing editorial direction and feedback.
  • Help develop meaningful internship experiences that build professional skills while supporting New Art's marketing goals.
  • Assign, prioritize, and review intern projects, including content creation, photography, social media, database support, event promotion, research, and digital asset organization.
  • Provide feedback and mentorship to build interns' skills in nonprofit arts marketing.
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in nonprofit marketing, communications or a related field (arts or nonprofit experience is a plus).
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt your voice for donors, funders, patrons, and the broader community.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong proficiency with email marketing and digital communications tools (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Canva, basic web design) and strong technological fluency, including AI and database management.
  • Comfort coordinating multiple projects while collaborating with staff, interns, volunteers, and outside vendors.
  • Experience mentoring interns, volunteers, or student workers - or enthusiasm for helping emerging professionals grow.
  • A genuine passion for the arts, community engagement, and New Art's mission.
  • Self-sufficient, hardworking, and flexible, with the ability to use technology with ease.

We recognize that great candidates don't always meet every qualification. If you're excited about this role and believe you could contribute meaningfully to the team at New Art, we encourage you to apply.

What We Offer
  • Salary range: $60,000-$75,000, based on experience, including a $5,000 discretionary wellness, professional development, or health care stipend.
  • Generous paid time off, including full compensation during closure between Christmas and New Year's.
  • Complimentary New Art classes.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven team environment.
  • The chance to build New Art's development and communications program while mentoring the next generation of nonprofit and arts professionals.
