  • Experience working in a community college/university or related setting in marketing, public information, or communications.
Position Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications the Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the college’s marketing strategy, with an expanded focus on Marketing Administration, Budget Support, Product Ordering, and Social Media Management. The role involves enhancing internal and external communication initiatives to strengthen the College’s connections with employees, students/parents, prospective students/parents, and community members through traditional and digital marketing methods.

Essential Duties:
Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, performs or causes to perform the following functions:

  • Develop, coordinate, and support marketing, communication, and recruitment campaigns for prospective students, current students, employees, alumni, and community audiences.
  • Enhance awareness of the College and its brand through new and emerging media (digital, online, social).
  • Manage the College’s primary social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, YouTube, and other emerging platforms, including strategy, content development, scheduling, engagement, analytics, and campaign reporting.
  • Monitor social media engagement and respond to messages, comments, and interactions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support and monitor department managed social media accounts by providing guidance, training, brand standards, content support, and best practices.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of paid advertising campaigns, including social media ads, digital ads, billboards, print placements, television, etc.
  • Develop, source, write, edit, and publish content for social media, web, email, digital signage, video, print, and other communication channels.
  • Oversee the SCC Content Creator Program, including recruitment, onboarding, communication, content planning, assignments, approvals, and alignment with College campaigns and brand standards.
  • Supervise the SCC Marketing Intern/Work Study students, including training, project assignments, brand guidance, content review, and professional development.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and departments to determine communication needs, develop project direction, establish timelines, and ensure materials align with SCC brand standards.
  • Manage the department’s project management software and marketing request process, including receiving requests, reviewing tickets, assigning projects to team members, tracking deadlines, communicating with requestors, and supporting department workflow.
  • Plans, designs, and schedules weekly college emails for students and staff
  • Assist with managing the editorial calendar for College related activities, campaigns, events, deadlines, and special dates.
  • Support College storytelling efforts, including writing, editing, fact checking, proofreading, and contributing ideas for news stories, feature stories, annual publications, and other College communications.
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and vendors, printers, publishers, media representatives, and other external partners for marketing and communication projects.
  • Coordinate sponsorship requests, including reviewing requests, gathering information, routing approvals, maintaining records, and purchasing.
  • Coordinate SCC’s presence at outreach events, festivals, parades, and community functions, including promotional materials, staffing needs, supplies, etc.
  • Serve as a College representative at community functions and special events.
  • Assist with photography, videography, event coverage, and content gathering for College events, programs, ceremonies, and special initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain organized records of marketing initiatives, campaigns, contracts, advertising placements, vendor information, sensitive contact information, and department resources.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications in managing the marketing budget. Monitor and track expenditures related to marketing campaigns, events, and materials. Assist in preparing budget forecasts and variance analysis to ensure efficient allocation of resources.
  • Coordinate the procurement of marketing materials, promotional items, and event supplies. Work closely with vendors to negotiate pricing, place orders, and ensure timely delivery. Maintain accurate inventory records of marketing materials and supplies.
  • Serve as backup to the Director of Marketing and Communications as needed.
  • Serve as an alternate for the emergency notification plan.
  • Serve on campus committees and participate in College initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills that promote collaboration and productivity
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of CRM (customer relationship management) software
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of Canva
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to produce photographs using digital SLR camera.
  • Experience tracking, planning, and maintaining a department budget.
