Overview

The Coordinator of Marketing and Public Relations is a detail-oriented and strategic project manager responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing internal and external communication initiatives and events for Rhodes State College. This position ensures that marketing and communications projects are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with institutional goals that enhance the College’s visibility and reputation.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position works closely with the College’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations to oversee the scheduling, development, and delivery of integrated marketing and communications projects. The Coordinator manages timelines, aligns team efforts, and ensures quality control for campaigns utilizing publications, website content, media outreach, and events to strengthen Rhodes State’s image and meet enrollment objectives.

  • Serve as a project manager and departmental liaison, coordinating workflow among marketing, academic and non-academic departments, and public relations to ensure projects are prioritized, tracked, and completed efficiently.
  • Manage timelines, approvals, and deliverables for marketing campaigns and institutional initiatives, ensuring messages are strategically aligned with target audiences and key enrollment demographics.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of written content, including publications, digital assets, and public communications, ensuring consistency with the College’s brand voice and editorial standards.
  • Partner with the Creative & Digital Media Specialist and other departments’ staff to align creative output with strategic goals, including campaign assets, website updates, and digital media execution.
  • Support the production of institutional publications such as the course catalog, electronic viewbook, annual report, and other college-wide documents by managing deadlines, coordinating content collection, and facilitating review processes.
  • Manage website content planning and updates, ensuring information remains current, relevant, and consistent with institutional initiatives and enrollment priorities.
  • Coordinate and support media relations and public communications, including press releases, key announcements, and special messaging from the President’s Office or other executive areas.
  • Oversee the procurement, inventory, and distribution of promotional materials to support recruitment, community engagement, and campus events.
  • Lead the planning and logistical execution of high-profile college events, ensuring marketing, branding, and public relations goals are integrated throughout.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in media, technology, and higher education marketing to inform process improvements and enhance communication strategies.
  • Represent the Marketing and Public Relations Office on cross-functional committees and special projects, promoting collaboration and shared governance across the institution.
  • Duties will take place in a professional office environment with frequent deadlines.
  • Some College events/responsibilities may occasionally require evening and weekend hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the strategic priorities of Rhodes State College.
Experience, Skills & Abilities
  • Required: Excellent communication skills, including experience developing and promoting content for the web, social media, traditional news media, and print publications.
  • Must have analytical and organizational skills; advanced computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the general community and news media.
  • Exhibit a high degree of integrity; ability to problem solve, be a team player, think critically, be collaborative, and energetic, appreciate detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to juggle multiple requests and projects simultaneously, while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; have the ability to develop, create, stage, and produce professional quality media and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives.
  • Two years of related experience.
Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working in Google Analytics.
