Job summary

Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, seeks a social media lead to own year-round content strategy for Aspen Ideas and related events. You will collaborate on cadence for Aspen Ideas: Health and other programs, and build the social editorial calendar.

You will lead asset creation across video, graphics, and copy, producing platform-optimized content for Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms. You will track metrics and coordinate with partners to uphold brand standards.

Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years of professional communications or marketing experience, including social media management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in content strategy, community building, and multi-platform growth.
  • Strong portfolio of social content, including video editing and graphic design work.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere and CapCut.
  • Proficiency with design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Proficiency with social media management tools such as Sprout Social, Later, and Hootsuite.
  • Experience managing paid social campaigns or collaborating with performance marketing teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects on tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with senior leaders, partners, and external talent.
  • Deep curiosity about policy, culture, science, health, technology, and society.
  • Experience capturing content and covering live events, conferences, or festivals.
  • Background in journalism, digital media, communications, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with intellectual, cultural, or policy-oriented content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the year-round social media content strategy for Aspen Ideas and associated events.
  • Collaborate on cadence and content for Aspen Ideas: Health and other programs.
  • Build and maintain the social media editorial calendar.
  • Lead creation of social media assets, including short-form video, graphic design, photography, and copywriting.
  • Produce platform-optimized content for Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
  • Manage asset workflow before, during, and after events.
  • Draft and post copy to the aspenideas.org website, including blog posts and session collections.
  • Coordinate earned social content with underwriters, speakers, media partners, and collaborators.
  • Develop social media toolkits and branded assets for partners.
  • Amplify Aspen Ideas and Public Programs content on main Institute channels.
  • Support paid social campaigns promoting pass sales, event registrations, and broadcast content.
  • Lead community management, audience engagement, conversation moderation, and social listening.
  • Track, analyze, and report social media metrics, content performance, and audience insights.
  • Monitor platform updates, emerging tools, and cultural trends; recommend new formats and experiments.
  • Provide creative briefs, oversee workflows, and ensure execution aligns with strategy and brand standards.

  • Support public-facing speaker and session data entry before and after events
  • Coordinate earned social content with underwriters, speakers, media partners, and collaborators
  • Develop social media toolkits and branded assets for partners
  • Amplify Aspen Ideas and Public Programs content on main Institute channels
  • Support paid social campaigns promoting pass sales, event registrations, and broadcast content
  • Lead community management, audience engagement, conversation moderation, and social listening
  • Track, analyze, and report social media metrics, content performance, and audience insights
  • Monitor platform updates, emerging tools, and cultural trends; recommend new formats and experiments
  • Manage digital contractors and agency partners, especially during the Aspen Ideas Festival
  • Provide creative briefs, oversee workflows, and ensure execution aligns with strategy and brand standards
  • Support Aspen Community Programs or other Public Programs and Institute events as needed
