Job summary

Coastal Waste & Recycling, Inc. is seeking a Market Area Controller to lead the financial performance of a Florida market.

You will oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis, partnering with Operations to drive profitability and efficiency. You will develop a high-performing finance team, ensure internal controls, and translate financial insights into strategic actions for senior leaders across multiple functions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Strong leadership experience developing accounting and finance professionals.
• Deep experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and operational finance.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Ability to translate complex financial information for non‑financial leaders.
• Strong business judgment, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/financial systems.
• Willingness to travel throughout the assigned market area.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary financial business partner to the Area President and market leadership.
• Lead, coach, and develop Senior District Controllers and District Controllers across the market area.
• Own budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and financial performance for the Area.
• Translate financial results into clear, actionable insights for operational leaders.
• Lead financial reviews with Area and District leadership and drive accountability around results.
• Analyze revenue, expenses, operational trends, and KPIs to identify risks and opportunities.
• Partner with Operations to improve profitability, cost control, route efficiency, and resource allocation.
• Evaluate the financial impact of operational changes, new initiatives, and business decisions.
• Strengthen financial processes, reporting consistency, and internal controls across the Area.
• Partner across Operations, Sales, Finance, and other functions to solve problems and improve performance.
• Support audits, acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives as Coastal continues to grow.
• Build a strong finance organization by developing talent, strengthening bench strength, and creating consistent expectations across your Controller team. At Coastal, we win as a team.
