Del Mar College is seeking a Maritime Personal Survival Techniques Lifeguard for the pool program, operating part-time during morning sessions 8:00am–12:00pm. The Lifeguard ensures safety, enforces pool policies, and supports instructors across scheduled courses held at the college pool.
Candidate must be 18+, hold Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications, and demonstrate the ability to respond calmly in emergencies while working with staff and students of all ages.
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time/adjunct assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. Job Description Summary
The Del Mar College's Maritime Personal Survival Techniques Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring safety during scheduled course hours.
Personal Survival Techniques classes are held throughout the year, typically in the morning from 8:00am - 12:00pm, at the Del Mar College swimming pool.
The Lifeguard is expected to be reliable, punctual, and friendly to all faculty, staff, and members of the community.
18 years of age.
Current Lifeguard certification (Submission of certification required).
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR )/First Aid certification (Submission of certification required).
Knowledge of CPR / AED and emergency medical procedures.
Skilled in the application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Ability to assist the course instructor with required equipment set up and tear down.
Basic knowledge in the maritime equipment/lifesaving appliances being used during the class.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including co-workers, community groups, and the general public.
Ability to work well with both staff and students of all ages.
One (1) year of Lifeguard experience preferred.
Beach/ocean lifeguarding preferred but not necessary.
