Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years, 8+ years preferred, in health and safety and/or environment.
• Knowledge of maritime safety regulatory requirements; strong knowledge of hazardous materials handling in a transportation/maritime setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement safety systems and culture action plans to drive safety vision and reduce risk.
• Investigate employee injuries, identify root causes, maintain statistics, analyze trends, and report safety KPIs.
• Train management in safety programs, Business Continuity Plans and Emergency Action Plans in line with laws.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and observations with Environmental Department for governance and compliance.
• Coach leadership to ensure regulatory health, safety, environmental compliance is maintained.
• Meet with unions and industry safety reps monthly to discuss safety concerns.
• Attend monthly meetings to discuss serious injuries and prevention strategies.
• Conduct periodic shop safety inspections and reinforce safe work practices and initiatives.
• Support legal team to mitigate OSHA citations and liability claims.
