Job summary

Valkyrie Enterprises, Inc. in Norfolk, VA, seeks a Maritime Estimator to prepare, analyze, and finalize bids for new vessel construction, conversion, and repair programs.

You will develop cost models, labor forecasts, material take-offs, and subcontractor pricing while coordinating with program management, purchasing, and leadership to pursue new business. Responsibilities include reviewing specifications, developing detailed cost estimates, preparing bid summaries, and creating work breakdown

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10 years in commercial marine estimating or related field.
• Experience with aircraft carrier and surface ship repair or modernization.
• Ability to read vessel drawings, specs, and contracts.
• Strong knowledge of shipyard production processes and marine systems.
• Familiar with regulatory requirements and cost-estimation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Review specifications, drawings, contracts, and technical requirements.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
• Prepare bid summaries, proposals, and customer submittals.
• Create work breakdown structures and itemized scopes of work.
• Develop labor forecasts, budgets, and schedule estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Compare subcontractor pricing with internal costs.
• Identify long-lead materials and assist procurement strategies.
• Prepare pricing for contract modifications and change orders.
• Participate in bid/no-bid evaluations and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with production and project management on execution plans.
• Conduct estimate-turnover meetings after contracts are awarded.
• Use historical data to improve estimating accuracy.
