Job summary

Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a Maritime Estimator in Norfolk, VA to prepare and finalize comprehensive bids for new vessel construction, repair, and modernization projects. You will build labor and material cost models, develop production plans, and coordinate with PM, purchasing, and senior leadership to pursue new business opportunities.

The role requires 5–10 years in marine estimating and the ability to read complex drawings and contracts, with proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and MS

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of commercial marine estimating experience.
• Experience with aircraft carrier and surface ship repair, overhaul, or modernization projects.
• Experience preparing detailed marine bids, proposals, and cost estimates.
• Ability to read and interpret vessel drawings, specifications, documents, and contracts.
• Strong understanding of shipyard production processes and vessel-construction methods.
• Knowledge of marine vessel systems, structural fabrication, and outfitting.
• Working knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard, ABS, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with labor forecasting, material take-offs, vendor quotations, and subcontractor pricing.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications, drawings, contracts, and technical requirements.
• Develop detailed labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
• Prepare bid summaries, proposals, and customer submittals.
• Create work breakdown structures and itemized scopes of work.
• Develop labor forecasts, productivity assumptions, budgets, and schedule estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Compare subcontractor pricing with internal production costs.
• Identify long-lead materials and assist with procurement strategies.
• Prepare pricing for contract modifications and change orders.
• Participate in bid/no-bid evaluations and project risk assessments.
• Work with production and project management to develop execution plans.
• Conduct estimate-turnover meetings following contract awards.
• Use historical cost and production data to improve estimating accuracy.
• Evaluate financial, regulatory, bonding, insurance, and contractual requirements.
