Job summary

Management & Training Corporation in Astoria, Oregon seeks a Maritime Chief Engineer Instructor to deliver USCG-aligned curriculum, lead shipboard training, and mentor students. You will serve as Chief Engineer on Tongue Point Job Corps Center vessels (Ironwood and Columbia) during underway sessions 1-2 times per week, ensuring safety and performance.

The role requires extensive sea experience, STCW and unlimited Chief Engineer credentials, and a strong teaching background.

Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer unlimited license valid nationally or internationally.
  • STCW certification with advanced safety and firefighting.
  • Sea experience in progressively responsible engineering roles.
  • Knowledge of maritime regulations for training vessels.
  • Medical fitness certificate for duty at sea.
  • Teaching or training certification (USCG Train the Trainer).
  • First Aid and CPR certification suitable for maritime contexts.
  • Union membership is required for health and retirement benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver curriculum and design lessons aligned to USCG curriculum.
  • Teach classes, lead practical exercises, supervise hands-on training.
  • Act as Chief Engineer on Tongue Point training vessels during underway sessions.
  • Mentor engineering students and ensure curriculum adherence.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback.
  • Oversee lab equipment, simulators, and workshop safety.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime safety standards and regulations.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and industry engagement.
  • Engage with maritime stakeholders to align training with job opportunities.
  • Manage scheduling, records, and reporting per regulatory bodies.
