Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gulfport seeks a Marine Electronics Instructor to teach theory, installation, diagnostics, calibration, testing, and maintenance of marine electronics for non-credit students.

You will cover shipboard communication systems, navigation sensors, and other electronic technologies, supervise hands-on practice, keep attendance records, and stay current with industry standards. This is a full-time, on-site role reporting to the Workforce Solutions leadership.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years' full-time experience in marine electronics installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, or repair.
  • Ability to read electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • Proficient with electronic testing, calibration, and diagnostic equipment and capable of operating and maintaining lab equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic systems, low-voltage systems, digital controls, and industry standards.
  • Demeanor and skills to provide effective instruction to a diverse group.
  • Proficient with computer and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach marine electronic systems installation, testing, diagnostics, calibration, operation and repair.
  • Instruct students with proper installation, diagnostics, calibration, operation, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
  • Supervise students during practice, providing real-time feedback to improve technical skills and diagnostics.
  • Stay current with industry technology and shipbuilding practices.
  • Maintain documentation of training and student performance.
  • Ensure equipment is operational and coordinate with technical support.

Job description

This position is for a Maritime Bootcamp - Marine Electronics Instructor with a company in Gulfport, MS.

Job Description: The incumbent is responsible for preparing and teaching a full range of marine electronics techniques, including electronic theory, system installation, diagnostics, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance to non-credit workforce students/trainees as needed. Instruction may include shipboard communication systems, navigation equipment, sensors, control systems, and other electronic technologies used in modern shipbuilding. The incumbent will report to a Workforce Project Director.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Be skilled in marine electronic systems, including installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and maintenance of shipboard electronic equipment.
  • Be skilled in reading and interpreting electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, system drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Educate students using proper installation, diagnostics, calibration, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of marine electronic systems.
  • Supervise and instruct students as they practice in electronic environments, providing real-time feedback to improve technical skills and system diagnostics.
  • Remain current with industry technology, electronic systems, equipment, software, standards, and shipbuilding practices.
  • Ensure that equipment is operational, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with technical support to maintain seamless instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Exhibit a high degree of skill, precision, and attention to detail.
  • Have excellent working knowledge of electronic diagnostic equipment, calibration instruments, testing devices, computers, software applications, and electronic tools essential to marine electronics.
  • Maintain all documentation for training as required by AccelerateMS guidelines, MGCCC policies and procedures, and other governmental agencies and organizations.
  • Perform duties independently and exercise a high degree of autonomy.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor temperatures and industrial environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Workforce Solutions or college administration.
Mandatory Qualifications
  • (M1) Minimum three years' full-time experience in marine electronics installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, or repair.
  • (M2) Demonstrated competencies in reading electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • (M3) Proficient with electronic testing, calibration, and diagnostic equipment and capable of operating and maintaining all electronics lab equipment.
  • (M4) Knowledge of electronic systems, low-voltage systems, digital controls, and applicable industry standards.
  • (M5) Demeanor, training, and skills necessary to provide effective instruction to a diverse group of individuals with varying degrees of previous experience.
  • (M6) Proficient with computer and communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • (D1) Relevant Associate's degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, Technical Education, or related field.
  • (D2) Experience working in shipbuilding or marine electronics.
  • (D3) Experience working at a community college.
