Job summary

The City of New York’s Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Mariner to support the Bureau of Wastewater Treatment in the Marine Section. The role requires operating vessel cargo handling, line work, mooring, and vessel maintenance, with the potential for night/weekend shifts and physical labor in varied weather conditions.

Candidates must hold an Able Seaman credential (USCG or Merchant Mariner’s with AB endorsement) and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Qualifications

• Valid US Coast Guard Able Seaman certificate, unlimited waters.
• US Merchant Mariner's Document with Able Seaman endorsement, unlimited waters.

Responsibilities

• Operate valves to load and/or discharge the vessel's cargo.
• Handle lines, rigging, mooring and unmooring vessels to and from docks.
• Clean, scale and paint vessels and equipment.
• Steer vessels and stand lookout during operations.
• Perform heavy manual labor as required.
