Job summary

Seaward Services Inc. seeks a Third Assistant Engineer to oversee maintenance and operation of the USNS Guam’s engineering plant, supervising engineering department members. The Guam is a rapid troop-transport vessel with a home port of Singapore.

Seaward Services covers all travel. Daily pay rate: $505.51 Responsibilities include maintenance per USCG, FCC, and other regulations; reporting to the Chief Engineer; training staff; and conducting drills with both marine and non-marine crew.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred from maritime academy, or in related field, or equivalent experience.
  • USCG License for Third Assistant Engineer (Unlimited horsepower).
  • STCW 95 Certificate.
  • TWIC.
  • US passport.
  • MS Office software proficiency.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to solve engineering problems.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic skills.
  • Management and administrative capabilities.
  • Training and mentoring abilities.
  • Knowledge of pertinent regulations and laws.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Plan, organize, and complete work.
  • Inter-personal skills.
  • Set and meet high performance standards.
  • Initiative and multi-tasking ability.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Five years’ Marine Engineer experience.
  • High-speed vessel experience preferred.
  • Water jet experience preferred.
  • Experience in managing major onboard systems by type and brand.
  • Excellent marine industry career record.
  • Maintain USCG physical standards.
  • Stand/walk long hours; perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces aboard vessel.
  • Be able to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
  • Complete IMO-HSC Type Rating program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate vessel systems per USCG, FCC and related regs.
  • Report problems to Chief Engineer; understudy and act in absence.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and manage spare parts; pump sewage/oily water as needed.
  • Train engineers; maintain logs; conduct emergency repairs.
  • Maintain safe engine room and comply with regulations.
  • Conduct drills with crew per Master/engineering needs.
  • Work in marine environment with varying conditions; noise exposure.
  • Rotational duty: generally 56 days on – 56 days off (+).
  • Other duties as assigned.
