Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Marine Underwriting in Texas, with a hybrid work arrangement in Dallas or Houston. The AVP will drive underwriting quality, set strategic direction, and oversee Marine coverage for the Business Unit, working closely with leaders, underwriters and corporate resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of inland marine underwriting experience.
• 3+ years of leadership experience in a matrixed organization.
• Strategic and creative marine product and underwriting skills with industry insights.
• Exceptional communication and decisive decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop Marine strategy aligned with the Business Insurance plan.
• Manage underwriting performance via guidelines, referrals, and audits.
• Understand performance within each marine class and influence actions.
• Develop risk selection and pricing tools to streamline underwriting and profitability.
• Offer state-of-the-art marine products including customized program solutions.
• Provide oversight on all marine coverages and governance.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing home-office team.
